Measuring your stretched canvas correctly takes only a few minutes and helps ensure your made-to-measure floating frame fits beautifully.

How to Measure a Canvas for a Floating Frame Accurately
Use the outside dimensions of the stretched canvas itself. A metal tape measure and millimetres will give you the clearest, most repeatable measurements.

Measure the Width and Height of Your Canvas
When learning how to measure a canvas for a floating frame, begin with the true outside dimensions of the stretched canvas. Measure the width from the far left edge to the far right edge, then measure the height from the top edge to the bottom edge.
Include the complete wooden stretcher structure beneath the canvas. Do not measure only the visible artwork and do not add an allowance for the floating gap, as our frame designer calculates this automatically.
Always measure twice before ordering.
Measure the Canvas Depth
Measure from the front face of the stretched canvas to the back of the wooden stretcher bar. This depth measurement is just as important as the width and height because it determines which floating frame profile will comfortably contain your canvas.
Select a frame depth equal to or slightly greater than the canvas depth. If your measurement falls between two available depths, choose the deeper option so the front of the canvas does not project beyond the frame.

Once you have carefully checked the width, height and depth, you are ready to order. Enter the actual measurements exactly as taken from your stretched canvas; there is no need to add anything for the shadow gap or frame opening.
Before adding the frame to your basket, compare the measurements with your notes one final time. Because every floating frame is made specifically to the dimensions you provide, accurate measurements help ensure the best possible fit.
